Ireland: Land of our missionaries

Good morning. I’d like you to meet my friend, Wiley…Wiley Snake.

In AD 400, Saint Patrick, the same saint we celebrate on St. Patrick’s Day, had a vision to go to Ireland bringing Christianity to that country. Legend has it, while on a 40 day fast, the snakes bothered him continually. Using his faith, he drove all the snakes out of Ireland. That’s why, anytime Wiley hears Saint Patrick’s name, he gets upset.

Times have changed. There are no snakes in Ireland. As of this month, we will be showing videos of the missionaries River of Life Church sponsors, so you can know them more personally. We have sponsored Tom and Brooke Harshberger as missionaries to Northern Ireland. Although the war between the North and South Ireland has officially stopped, many still need the message of the Good News of Jesus Christ and healing from the emotional devastation of that terrible conflict.

In Romans 10:14-15, we read, How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? and how shall they preach, except they be sent? even as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that bring glad tidings of good things!

We are not called to go to Ireland, but we are called to send those who bear the good news.

Before we watch the video, Wiley, I see you are wearing Philadelphia Eagles green today. Do you have anything you’d like to say about the New England Patriots?
